What is the purpose of the DuBois area Historical Society, Inc.?

*To promote the study, preservation, and appreciation of history, especially of the DuBois Area.

When was it founded?

*1982.

What are its boundaries?

*The same as those of the DuBois Area School District, including the City of DuBois, Sandy Township, the boroughs of Falls Creek, Reynoldsville, Sykesville, Troutville, Luthersburg, Penfield, and surrounding areas.

What are the interests of the DuBois Area Historical Society?

*Among a large group of interests are the area's schools, churches, entertainment, business and industry, lumbering, mining, architecture, farm and grange life, genealogy, fire departments, and anything else which pertains to the history of the DuBois area and its residents.

What activities has the DuBois Area Historical Society participated in?

*Regular meetings featuring speakers about local or state history.

*An annual banquet with a featured guest speaker.

*Preserving the work of these guest speakers through the use of audio and video tapes.

*The beginnings of a museum collection using donated items and collected community items which may have otherwise been lost.

*Establishing a geneological reference section that does not overlap with the current holdings already available in DuBois.

*The placing of historical displays in public buildings throughout the area.

*Obtaining a grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission which was used to purchase office equipment, reference materials, and audiovisual equipment to be used in the preservation of local history.

*Sponsored through the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission a writing project by a local author pertaining to the company mining towns of Pennsylvania.

*Publishes a newsletter which is sent to all of its members informing them of present and upcoming activities.

*Sponsered the publication of various other books of local history.
